According to our report, Professor Yusufu Turaki, renowned elder statesman and academic, has weighed in on the ongoing debate over religious violence in Nigeria, challenging narratives surrounding the targeting of communities.
Turaki noted claims that more Muslims than Christians have been killed in terrorist attacks, questioning why Muslim communities do not vocally protest as Christians do. He argued that such narratives are used to downplay genuine Christian concerns and obscure the religious motivations of extremist groups.
“More Muslims are being killed than Christians. If this is true, why don’t Muslims cry out as Christians?” Turaki asked. He emphasized that terrorist organizations founded under Islamic ideology cannot have their religious motivations ignored, and framing attacks otherwise risks silencing Christian voices about religiously motivated persecution.
