According to our reporter, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed frustration over what he described as Nigerians’ unwillingness to appreciate the efforts of the nation’s security agencies.
Speaking during a heated interview about crime in Abuja, Wike pushed back against claims of rising insecurity in the capital, insisting that critics focus only on isolated incidents while ignoring months of progress. “Why is it that we do not appreciate our security agencies?” he asked.
The minister argued that one high-profile case often sparks exaggerated panic, especially when it involves media personalities or prominent citizens, while the daily efforts of security operatives go unnoticed. He stressed that such one-sided narratives distort reality and undermine morale.
According to our reporter, Wike maintained that despite occasional incidents, the rate of crime in Abuja has “drastically reduced,” urging Nigerians to rely on verified data rather than social media outrage. “Crime happens everywhere,” he said, “but that doesn’t mean our city is unsafe.”
