Young man dies in Techimantia police custody

A 28-year-old man known as Kweku has died while in police custody at Techimantia in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo Region after being arrested for allegedly threatening to kill his grandmother.

According to residents, the grandmother reported the incident to the police out of fear for her safety, and officers later picked Kweku up at his home.

Community members claim the young man was subjected to assault during his arrest, leaving him visibly weak by the time he was taken into custody.

Sources close to the family say Kweku was left without food for an entire day while in detention.

His condition reportedly deteriorated quickly, prompting the police to rush him to the Techimantia Government Hospital for medical care.

Hospital officials later confirmed that he died shortly after arrival.

The police have since commenced an investigation into the events that led to his death and the officers involved in his arrest.
