13-year-old boy publicly shot a man convicted of murdering 13 members of his family

A 13-year-old boy carried out a public execution of a man convicted of murdering 13 members of his family, including nine children and their mother, in Khost province, Afghanistan. The event, reported by Metro UK on December 2, 2025, took place in a crowded cricket stadium with approximately 80,000 spectators chanting religious slogans.

The Supreme Court had confirmed the man’s guilt in a mass killing carried out with an accomplice. Authorities offered the victims’ family the option to forgive the perpetrator, which could have spared his life, but they chose to uphold the death sentence. The teenager fired three shots in accordance with the court’s ruling, with local officials and residents observing the execution.

Supporters of the punishment argued that such measures might serve as a deterrent to future crimes. The Taliban enforced strict restrictions at the venue, banning camera phones and maintaining policies reminiscent of their previous regime in the 1990s, which included public executions under their interpretation of Sharia law.

The incident is the latest in a series of public executions since the Taliban regained control. United Nations officials condemned the practice, urging authorities to halt such executions, describing them as cruel, inhumane, and in violation of international law.
