The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fixed May 15 and 16, 2026, for its presidential primary, marking a major step in its build-up to the 2027 general elections.

This was made known in a timetable shared on the APC’s X account, alongside a statement signed by its National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu.
The schedule highlights important stages such as the sale of forms, screening of aspirants, the appeals process, and primaries for various elective offices.
According to the timetable, interested aspirants can obtain expression of interest and nomination forms between April 25 and May 2, while completed forms must be submitted by May 4.
The screening exercise is expected to take place from May 6 to May 8, while results from the screening will be released on May 11, with appeals slated for May 12 and 13.
The House of Representatives primaries will hold on May 18, Senate primaries on May 20, State House of Assembly primaries on May 21, and governorship primaries on May 23.
The APC also set the cost of the presidential forms at ₦100 million, broken down into ₦30 million for the expression of interest and ₦70 million for the nomination form.
Governorship hopefuls are required to pay ₦50 million, while fees for other offices differ.
The party added that female aspirants, young people, and persons with disabilities will pay only for the expression of interest form and half of the nomination fee for any position they seek.
It explained that the timetable aligns with the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The APC stressed its intention to organise primary elections that are credible and transparent, in a bid to strengthen internal democracy.
At the time of filing this report, no APC member has officially declared an interest in the presidential race.
However, several party figures and allies have already shown support for President Bola Tinubu to seek another term.
Although Tinubu has yet to make a formal announcement about his plans, he recently brushed aside claims that he is worried about the opposition ahead of the elections.
