Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has dismissed the idea of leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), despite growing concerns over the state of his party.
Fayose described the PDP as a “carcass,” attributing its weakened state to ongoing leadership struggles that have plagued the party since the run-up to the 2023 presidential election. The crisis, which stemmed from unresolved issues surrounding the party’s zoning arrangement, has continued to fuel internal divisions.
Speaking to journalists after a visit to President Bola Tinubu in Lagos, Fayose said: “Let me first of all clear this, Ayodele Fayose is not moving from the PDP to any political party, this year I’m 65.”
He acknowledged that some members who have left the party believe in President Tinubu’s leadership or have grown frustrated with the PDP’s internal problems. Fayose added, “It’s within the choices of those who have chosen to move, some said they saw what the president is doing, some said they believe that the party is in trouble, and without doubt the PDP is in trouble which is the gospel truth.”
Expressing concern over the PDP’s direction, he warned, “I believe that if they don’t quickly take steps, the party in itself will become a carcass.”
Fayose also emphasized that he no longer holds a frontline position in the party, stating, “I’m not in the frontline anymore and the little contribution I could have made, I did while on the seat.”
