According to a report by Daily Post, on Thursday April 23, 2026, the spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Habibu Saleh, has dismissed claims that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s political influence is limited only to Kano State.
Saleh stated that the suggestion that Kwankwaso only commands votes in Kano is an understatement, he argued that recent election results show that the former Kano governor has support across different parts of Nigeria.
He explained that Kwankwaso secured about 906,000 votes in Kano alone during the last presidential election, he said the former governor received about 500,000 votes from other states across the country, showing wider national acceptance.
Saleh noted that Kwankwaso achieved this result while contesting on a relatively unknown political platform and added that the campaign did not have the backing of any sitting governor, federal lawmaker, or major political structure at the time.
According to him, Kwankwaso also did not benefit from elite political support or strong party machinery, yet still managed to record significant votes, he said this reflects strong grassroots connection and growing national credibility.
He added that delivering a strong result in one’s home state while also gaining votes outside it shows political strength that should not be ignored and insisted that Kwankwaso’s performance proves he is more than a regional politician.
He stated that Kwankwaso, despite contesting for the first time and without holding any major national office recorded about six percent of the votes, according to him, this puts Kwankwaso’s performance in a clearer national perspective.
“It is a serious understatement for anybody to say that political relevance of my principal is only in Kano. The figures from the last election clearly show otherwise,” he said.
