Veteran Nigerian actor Jim Iyke has spoken candidly about what he describes as one of the biggest problems affecting the country’s film industry, Nollywood, claiming it is being held back by internal sabotage.
In a recent interview, the outspoken actor expressed concern that the industry is not only facing external challenges but also struggling with issues created from within.
According to him, some individuals working in the system are actively undermining progress rather than contributing to its growth.
Jim Iyke suggested that if he had the opportunity to make a major change in Nollywood, it would be to remove what he called “saboteurs” who, in his view, disrupt harmony and limit development. He described the situation as deeply frustrating, adding that some of these behaviours are intentional and damaging to the industry’s reputation and productivity.
The actor did not hold back in his criticism, stating that certain attitudes within the creative space may require more than just professional correction.
He implied that emotional and psychological intervention might be necessary for some individuals to function better in a collaborative environment.
Despite his strong remarks, Jim Iyke also reflected on personal moments that have shaped his journey in the film industry.
He revealed that one of his proudest experiences was receiving praise from his son, who described him as a “genius” after watching one of his performances.
The actor said the comment deeply moved him and brought him to tears, highlighting the emotional side of his career success.
He also shared his admiration for fellow actress Kate Henshaw, noting that she remains one of his favourite colleagues to work with due to her professionalism and talent.
Jim Iyke’s comments have once again sparked conversation within Nollywood, an industry widely regarded as one of the largest film producers in the world. While it continues to grow globally, discussions around professionalism, unity, and internal challenges remain ongoing.
