Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has dismissed viral claims suggesting she snubbed Fuji music star Wasiu Alabi Pasuma at a recent social event, describing the allegation as false and misleading.
The controversy began after a short video clip from a public gathering surfaced online, with some social media users alleging that the actress deliberately ignored the Fuji icon. The brief footage, which showed multiple celebrities at the venue, quickly sparked debate and different interpretations across platforms.
In the clip, Akindele was seen greeting fellow actress Fathia Balogun during a celebratory event, while Pasuma appeared seated at another section of the venue. This positioning led some viewers to assume that there was no interaction between the two stars.
However, the narrative changed after a longer version of the video began circulating online, showing that the initial claims were incomplete. In the extended footage, Akindele is seen warmly acknowledging Pasuma, exchanging greetings with him, and briefly interacting before moving on to greet other guests.
Reacting directly to the controversy via her X account on Sunday, Akindele firmly rejected the allegations and clarified that there was no instance of disrespect.
“Snub? Hell no. Stop the negativity pls. I saw him, greeted him, danced with him. Pasuma is my egbon. Pls you all should stop this evil,” she wrote.
Her response quickly gained attention, with many fans backing her clarification and criticizing the tendency of social media users to draw conclusions from short or edited clips without full context.
The event in question was a birthday celebration for Fathia Balogun and attracted several prominent figures from the Nigerian entertainment industry, including actors, musicians, and filmmakers. Multiple videos from different angles showed a lively atmosphere with guests freely interacting across the venue.
Observers noted that such events are often crowded and fast-paced, making it easy for moments to be misinterpreted when viewed in isolation. In Akindele’s case, the actress has frequently been at the center of similar online controversies, where short video clips have been used to suggest narratives that are later debunked when full footage emerges.
Despite the viral backlash, Akindele’s clarification appears to have calmed the situation, with many supporters emphasizing that her longstanding relationship with Pasuma makes the idea of a snub unlikely.
Pasuma, a respected figure in Fuji music, has also maintained cordial relationships with several Nollywood stars over the years, often collaborating or appearing at industry events alongside them.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Pasuma nor Fathia Balogun has publicly commented on the controversy, while the viral debate continues to highlight how quickly misinformation can spread from short social media clips.
