Schoolgirls Kidnapping in Kebbi Linked to Staff Sergeant Leaving Post — Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff, has attributed the recent abduction of schoolgirls at Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Kebbi State to the actions of a staff sergeant who abandoned his duty post.

In a video shared by ESET TV, General Shaibu explained that a military team had been deployed to protect the school, led by the staff sergeant. However, the officer withdrew the soldiers without authorization shortly before the attack, leaving the school unprotected.

General Shaibu emphasized that no one instructed the sergeant to leave, describing the decision as entirely his own. “The problem we had in Kebbi, where those schoolgirls were abducted, happened because we put our faith in a staff sergeant. He was deployed there and, on his own, without any directives, left before the incident took place,” he said.
