Ghana international Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has opened up about his strong desire to return to the national team and play at the upcoming FIFA World Cup, despite recent injury setbacks.
In an interview, Kyereh admitted that representing Ghana on the world stage remains one of his biggest dreams.
The attacking midfielder said he is working hard to regain full fitness and hopes to be ready in time for selection.
“Yes, I want to play at the World Cup. It is a dream and a goal I believe in,” he said. “I still have a few weeks or months to get into the best shape possible. My aim is to play one or two full matches before the tournament starts.”
Kyereh made his debut for the Ghana national football team in 2021 after impressing in Germany with FC St. Pauli.
His creativity and energy quickly made him an important part of the squad.
He was a key member of the team that represented Ghana at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Although Ghana had a disappointing campaign and exited at the group stage, Kyereh was one of the few bright performers, scoring a goal and showing his attacking quality.
However, his progress was halted by a serious knee injury after he joined SC Freiburg in 2022.
The injury kept him out of action for a long period, leading to his absence from the national team and missing the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Now focused on recovery, Kyereh says he does not want to be selected just for the sake of it.
He insists he will only return if he is fully fit and able to make a real impact.
“I don’t want to go just to be part of it, I want to help the team and perform at my best. But in the end, the decision is not mine.” he said during his interview with Joy News.
