Popular student leader and NANS president Comrade Atiku Isa has opened up about the massive untapped potential support Peter Obi could enjoy among ordinary northerners.
He revealed that Obi’s simple lifestyle, humility and frugality match the exact qualities that northern voters admire in leaders, but many have been fed lies that paint him as an enemy of the region.
According to the activist, corrupt political elites deliberately spread propaganda linking Obi to the killing of Ahmadu Bello and the Biafran war to prevent illiterate masses from embracing his brand of accountable leadership.
Comrade Atiku Isa said: “Peter Obi carries himself as a nobody. Northerners like that. Once you are simple, they love you. But he has not been able to identify with ordinary people, because they do not know who he is. They have sold this script that, if Peter Obi comes, he is going to bring back Biafra. Some even say, ‘Are you going to support Peter Obi that killed Sarduana?’ I asked one of them, ‘How old was Peter Obi then?’ That is the kind of misinformation flying around. If he works on this and lets them know who he truly is, his support base will be in the north.”
