A Sunday church service in Orozo, a border community between Abuja and Nasarawa State, turned into a scene of horror after a man, reportedly a gospel singer, was caught carrying the severed head of his girlfriend in a poly bag.

The suspect, identified as Oluwatimileyin Ajayi, was apprehended by worshippers and local residents in an incident that has left the community deeply shaken.

The shocking event unfolded during a thanksgiving service marking the end of a seven-day fast. Caleb Umaru, the church’s Bible study teacher and general secretary, recounted how the suspect’s suspicious behavior drew attention.

“A church member, Brother Victor, noticed a man passing by the river near the church with a suspicious bag,” Umaru said. “He alerted another member, Brother Amos, and they confronted the man, who later threw the bag into the river.”

Ajayi refused to answer questions about the bag’s contents. Shortly after, two motorcycle riders arrived at the church searching for a passenger matching his description. One of the riders revealed that he had transported Ajayi from a nearby town and noticed blood dripping from his bag. When questioned about the bag’s content, Ajayi reportedly refused to disclose any details and disembarked near the church.

When confronted, Ajayi attempted to flee but was eventually caught in a bushy area. Videos circulating online show the chaotic scene as church members and locals restrained him.

As tension escalated, a pastor informed the congregation, and the police were called to the scene. Upon interrogation, Ajayi confessed that he had been in a relationship with the victim for about a year. He claimed that an argument over her chatting with another man turned violent. “He said she cut his hand with a knife during the struggle, and he retaliated by stabbing her in the neck,” Umaru explained.

When asked about his intentions, Ajayi allegedly admitted that someone instructed him to deliver the head. “He said he didn’t know the victim’s relatives and mentioned she was from around Mararaba or Nyanya,” Umaru added.

The horrifying discovery of the bag’s contents—confirmed to be a human head—sparked shock and disbelief among onlookers. “This was my first time witnessing something like this,” Umaru said, his voice trembling with emotion.

Netizens quickly identified the suspect as a gospel singer. Ajayi also claimed to be a social media manager and content creator, but these claims remain unverified.

The case has since been handed over to the Nasarawa State Police for further investigation.
