Actress Reese Witherspoon has responded to backlash following a recent Instagram video in which she encouraged people to learn more about artificial intelligence.
The controversy began after Witherspoon suggested that “it’s time” for people to “learn the basics together,” adding that A.I. could create “some really good tools that are going to make our lives easier and better.” She also said: “The thing I’ve learned about technology is if you don’t get a little bit of understanding from the very beginning, it just speeds past you.”
The comments sparked criticism online, with some users expressing concern over the growing role of artificial intelligence and its potential impact on jobs and creativity.
Addressing the reaction in a follow-up Instagram story, Witherspoon clarified that she was not paid to promote A.I., describing herself as “just a curious human” interested in understanding the technology. She added: “I don’t believe computers should replace humanity. I’m planning on learning as much as possible about it so that I’m educated about this technological revolution.”
The actress also acknowledged the concerns raised by critics, saying she understands their perspective but intends to continue exploring the subject. “And if you’re not on board, that’s okay too,” she said, indicating that differing views on the issue are valid.
