The community of Dayi in Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State, welcomed former vice chairman Nasiru Abdullahi home with relief after he spent 103 harrowing days in captivity. Reports indicate that his release was secured after his family and community raised eight million naira to meet the kidnappers’ demands.
Trust TV documented the emotional homecoming. Abdullahi was immediately taken to a hospital for a medical check-up, where doctors confirmed he was weakened but free from major infections. Once stable, he shared the terrifying experiences he endured while in captivity.
Abdullahi recounted being kept in chains for the duration of his imprisonment, sometimes with only his legs bound and other times with both hands and legs restrained. He said he had to request permission to use the toilet, with the bandits tossing him a key from a distance. Physical abuse was routine; the captors mockingly asked if he wanted “tea,” a euphemism for an impending beating, regardless of his answer.
He often lacked sufficient food and water, and during extreme heat, he resorted to drinking his own urine to survive. Other captives, including a woman and her child, faced equally distressing conditions.
Following his release, Abdullahi urged government authorities to improve communication and strengthen peacebuilding efforts with affected communities, emphasizing that meaningful dialogue could help reduce violence and prevent others from suffering similar ordeals.
