In the world of film, audiences often get carried away by the chemistry they see between actors on screen. Romantic scenes are usually designed to look smooth, natural, and emotionally convincing.
However, for the actors involved, the experience behind the camera is often very different from what viewers imagine.
Nollywood actor Saga Adeolu recently opened up about this side of filmmaking, sharing his personal experience with on-screen kissing and how it feels from an actor’s perspective. His comments give a more realistic picture of what goes into creating those romantic moments that fans enjoy watching.
According to him, kissing scenes are not as enjoyable or comfortable as they may appear. He explained that acting out intimacy is part of the job, but it does not necessarily reflect real feelings or comfort. In his words:
“It is not easy to kiss another actor. It is weird. I have not really had any good onscreen kiss. It is weird having people invade your mouth with saliva. ‘It is not something we enjoy. People think we enjoy it, but we don’t. We are just doing it for the story most times. If I had my way, I won’t kiss anyone in a film… There was a day I kissed four different girls on set”.
From his explanation, it is clear that actors often have to separate their personal feelings from the demands of a script. What the audience sees as romance or passion is usually a carefully directed performance that may require multiple takes, different angles, and repeated actions until the director is satisfied with the final result.
Saga’s experience also shows how physically and emotionally uncomfortable such scenes can sometimes be, especially when they involve multiple co-stars in a single production schedule. Even though it is part of acting, it still requires a level of adjustment that not every performer finds easy.
He also pointed out a common misconception among viewers that actors enjoy every romantic moment they portray. In reality, these scenes are treated just like any other part of the job, approached with professionalism rather than personal attachment.
His story gives a clearer understanding of the film industry, where acting often requires stepping into situations that feel awkward or unfamiliar. Despite the discomfort, actors like Saga continue to deliver performances that make movie stories believable and engaging for audiences.
