Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has shared key details of what Northern governors and traditional rulers discussed during their high-level security meeting held on Monday in Kaduna State.
Writing on his verified Facebook page, Governor Alia said the gathering was driven by deep concern over rising insecurity across the North, which he described as “a threat to the very soul of Northern Nigeria.”
According to him, the governors unanimously agreed that the region urgently needs State Police, insisting that the current security structure is overstretched and unable to fully protect communities facing banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping.
He explained that while enhanced policing is necessary, the region must also confront deeper issues fueling insecurity — such as poverty, mass illiteracy, youth neglect, and the breakdown of community structures.
The governor noted that the forum appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ongoing rescue operations and extended condolences to families affected by recent attacks.
Reaffirming Benue’s commitment, Governor Alia said:
“We will not allow fear or division to define our future. Together, we are committed to building a stronger and safer Northern Nigeria.”
His statement has since attracted reactions from supporters and residents across social media.
