The Benue State Police Command has arrested three individuals in connection with the deadly attack on Anwule community in Ohimini Local Government Area, which claimed multiple lives, including that of a pastor. The suspects include vigilante commander Isah Peter, his associate Moses Peter, and a Fulani herdsman.
According to Daily Post, Isah Peter, acting commander of the Eguma community vigilante group, admitted using a community-owned firearm to carry out the attack under instructions from a man known only as “Pepper.” He also confessed to involvement in several violent incidents along the Otukpo–Oweto highway, an area increasingly plagued by armed attacks, abductions, and killings over the past year.
Residents of the corridor often restrict travel to daylight hours or seek police escorts due to security concerns. Human rights activist Meddy Olotu condemned the violence, stating, “It is disturbing that those meant to safeguard communities have become agents of terror. Security agencies must carry out a thorough investigation to ensure the safety of travellers along the Otukpo–Oweto highway.”
The police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and anticipate additional arrests as authorities work to dismantle the criminal network responsible for the attacks. Measures are being intensified to bring all perpetrators to justice and restore peace in the affected communities.
