Boko Haram Fighters Raid Malari Community, Abduct Two in Midnight Attack

Suspected Boko Haram militants launched a midnight raid on the Malari community in Konduga LGA of Borno State on Monday, abducting two residents before security forces intervened.

According to reports, the attackers entered the community shortly after midnight on motorcycles, firing shots into the air as residents scrambled for safety. Witnesses described a tense 30-minute ordeal as the insurgents moved from house to house before taking two people away.

Security sources said the attackers attempted to gain full control of the area but were repelled by operatives of the Borno State Police crack team. Officers deployed in the axis as part of ongoing counter-insurgency operations engaged the militants in a gunfire exchange that prevented further abductions.

A local vigilante noted that many residents fled into nearby bushes and compounds to hide. He said the intervention by police helped avert a more devastating outcome. The spokesperson for the Borno Police Command, Nahum Daso, confirmed that no lives were lost and that search-and-rescue operations were underway.

The incident underscores the continued security challenges facing communities around Maiduguri. Despite significant progress made in stabilising the region, Konduga remains vulnerable to sporadic nighttime incursions that heighten tension and disrupt local life.

Local leaders are calling for additional reinforcement and sustained surveillance to prevent further attacks.
