Political analyst Daniel Bwala has provided insight into the motives behind some terrorist attacks in Northern Nigeria, particularly those targeting schools. Speaking on Channels Television on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, Bwala highlighted both geographic and strategic factors that complicate security enforcement in the region.
Bwala pointed out that the vastness of Northern Nigeria allows terrorists to exploit distances and varying terrains. He noted that states like Niger are larger than some European countries, making travel from city centers to local government areas akin to crossing into another nation. This dispersion, he explained, creates gaps that militants can exploit.
He further suggested that terrorists sometimes deliberately attack schools to draw international attention to Nigeria’s security challenges. “Sometimes these terrorists go to schools because they need to make a case for United Nations regarding the rights for people to go to school,” Bwala explained, adding that similar attacks occur in churches and mosques to amplify their message.
The analyst stressed that understanding the geographic and social context is essential for developing effective counterterrorism strategies. His observations underscore the complexity of addressing insecurity in regions with challenging terrain and dispersed populations. Your phone could be secretly spying on you.
