According to Channels, former presidential campaign spokesperson, Daniel Bwala, has stated that Nigeria plays a far more significant role in global affairs than many citizens realize, emphasizing that even global powers like the United States rely on Nigeria for strategic support. Speaking during a televised interview on Friday, Bwala highlighted the country’s geopolitical relevance, insisting that Nigeria is not merely a beneficiary of international cooperation but also a contributor.
According to Bwala, Nigeria’s influence in Africa and within global institutions has made it an indispensable partner to many Western nations. “Even the United States of America needs us to help them, and we have been helping them,” he said, arguing that Nigeria’s role in regional security, peacekeeping, counterterrorism partnerships, and diplomatic mediation has been critical over the years.
He noted that Nigeria has consistently contributed to United Nations peacekeeping missions, stabilizing conflict zones in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Sudan, and The Gambia. These efforts, he explained, align with U.S. strategic interests in ensuring global stability. Beyond military collaborations, Bwala pointed to Nigeria’s importance in trade, demographics, energy, and intelligence-sharing arrangements.
Bwala also referenced ongoing counterterrorism cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, particularly in the fight against Boko Haram and ISIS-West Africa. He stated that intelligence exchanges, training programs, and logistical support benefit both nations. “It is not a one-sided relationship,” he emphasized. “For every assistance we receive, we also provide value on the diplomatic and security fronts.”
The analyst further argued that Nigeria’s large population, growing tech ecosystem, and expanding middle class place it at the center of U.S. economic projections for Africa. He noted that American companies continue to invest heavily in telecommunications, digital services, oil and gas, and the creative industry — sectors where Nigeria’s dominance influences broader regional markets.
Additionally, Bwala stressed that Nigeria’s leadership within ECOWAS has also been crucial to U.S. foreign policy goals, especially in promoting democratic governance and preventing unconstitutional changes of government in West Africa. He said the U.S. counts on Nigeria’s political weight when addressing regional instability.
