Businessman Tunde Ayeni, who was former chairman of the defunct Skye Bank Plc, has been remanded at the Kuje correctional centre in Abuja.
Tunde Ayeni was arraigned in court on Monday at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, where he faced 17-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering to the tune of about N8 billion.
The case was filled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and he denied all the allegations.
After he entered his plea, the EFCC’s lawyer, Ekele Iheanacho, asked the court to fix a date for the trial to begin and requested that Ayeni be remanded in custody until then.
In response, Ayeni’s lawyer, Ahmed Raji, told the court that a bail application had already been filed and served on the prosecution that same day.
Raji asked the judge to grant a short adjournment for the hearing of bail application.
He also revealed that the defence received the charge sheet on April 23, 2026, during a public holiday.
He appealed to the court to release Ayeni to him and another senior lawyer, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), assuring the court that his client would be present for future hearings.
The trial judge, Jude Onwuegbuzie, fixed May 13 to hear the bail application.
KanyiDaily recalls that Tunde Ayeni was arrested in Abuja by the EFCC over allegations involving the misuse of funds.
