FG to Name Terrorism Financiers Soon — Presidential Aide

The Federal Government is preparing to disclose the identities of individuals and entities financing terrorism in Nigeria, a senior presidential aide has confirmed.

Speaking in Abuja on Sunday, the aide explained that the forthcoming disclosure forms part of President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism, targeting both insurgents and the financial networks that sustain them. According to the official, investigations have reached advanced stages, with substantial evidence gathered against sponsors of violent extremist groups.

“The time for shielding terrorism financiers is over. Nigerians can expect transparency and action very soon,” the aide said, adding that the administration aims to dismantle the economic structures that enable terrorism, not just combat insurgents on the battlefield.

He highlighted ongoing collaborations with domestic and international financial intelligence units, including Interpol, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), and the United Nations, to trace suspicious financial flows linked to terrorist activities. Legislative and judicial cooperation will also support prosecutions, asset forfeiture, and long-term disruption of these networks.

Security analysts have welcomed the government’s announcement as a bold step toward breaking the cycle of violence in affected regions. They, however, urged strict transparency and impartiality to ensure the process is credible and free from political influence.
