Four members of the House of Representatives from Kano State have dumped the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The lawmakers are Sani Wakili, who represents Minjibir/Ungogo; Muktar Zakari from Tarauni; Umar Datti from Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam; and Abdulhakeem Ado from Wudil/Garko federal constituencies.
Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, announced their defection during Wednesday’s plenary session.
In a separate move, Kabiru Amadu, also known as Maipalace, who represents Gusau/Tsafe in Zamfara State, and Emeka Chinedu from Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte in Imo State, left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers said ongoing internal problems in their former parties led to their decision to switch.
The ADC has been gaining more members recently as political realignments begin ahead of the 2027 general elections.
