Public affairs analyst Shehu Mahdi has commented on Nigeria’s growing security challenges, linking the situation to systemic corruption and political sabotage.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Mahdi reflected on how former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan navigated political pressures during his tenure. He noted that after congratulating his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari, and stepping aside, Jonathan demonstrated political restraint and foresight. “Jonathan, being a gentleman, fully aware that he is being blackmailed, went and congratulated Buhari; he stepped aside; ten years down the line, he must be laughing in his private bathroom,” Mahdi remarked.
Mahdi further connected Nigeria’s current insecurities to corruption and weaknesses in the political system, suggesting that these factors have allowed criminal elements to thrive despite government efforts. He emphasized the need for stronger institutional frameworks and accountability to restore security nationwide.
