The Ghana Police Service has suspended an officer from duty in connection with allegations of defilement and incest involving his teenage daughter.
The officer, Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie, was serving at Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region before the interdiction.
The Ashanti North Regional Police Command confirmed the development in a statement released on May 9, 2026.
It stated that the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in the Agona District is currently handling investigations into the case.
According to the police, Charlotte Samaa, a resident of Koforidua, submitted the complaint on November 4, 2025, on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter.
The report accused the officer of sexually abusing the victim, who is said to be his biological child.
Investigators later referred the girl to a government medical facility for examination as part of efforts to gather evidence for the case.
Police also disclosed that Inspector Afriyie appeared before officials at the Agona DOVVSU office on February 20, 2026. Officers subsequently arrested and cautioned him over the allegations.
The suspect reportedly denied all accusations leveled against him. Authorities later granted him enquiry bail with instructions to report to the police periodically while investigations continue.
Police authorities explained that the interdiction is intended to allow for a full and uninterrupted investigation into the matter.
