GRIDCo, Ghana Gas set 5-hour Atuabo plant shutdown

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Ghana National Gas Company have announced a temporary shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant to carry out essential repair works.

In a statement dated April 19, 2026, the companies explained that the shutdown is needed to replace a damaged Burner Management System (BMS), a critical component that ensures the plant operates safely and efficiently.

The fault was first detected on April 15 and caused significant damage to the system’s controller, making a full replacement necessary.

Preparations for the repair are nearly complete, with about 90% of the work already done. To finish the installation, the plant will be shut down for five hours from midnight to 5:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20.

GRIDCo and Ghana Gas assured the public that all necessary measures have been put in place to complete the work on time and reduce any disruption to power supply.

While some inconvenience may occur, the companies say the maintenance is crucial to maintaining a stable and reliable electricity supply.

The Atuabo Gas Processing Plant plays a key role in Ghana’s energy sector, supplying gas for power generation, making routine maintenance important for preventing major disruptions.
