How Local Vigilantes Over Powered The Kidnappers To Free Their King- Monarch Family

Local vigilantes have reportedly secured the escape of Oba Kamilu Salami, the traditional ruler of Bayagan community in Kwara State, along with six other abducted individuals, following a tense confrontation in the Eku Idaji forest near Igbaja.

A source close to the monarch’s family told Daily Trust that the victims managed to flee amid an intense gun battle between the vigilante team and the kidnappers. “The vigilantes engaged the bandits in a serious exchange of gunfire in the forest. That was how he and six others managed to escape,” the source explained.

While the abductees reportedly contacted their families to confirm their safety, none have yet returned home, and authorities have not officially verified their release. Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, and the area’s lawmaker, Hon. Abolarin, stated that police search and rescue operations are still ongoing in the surrounding bush.

The incident follows a reported ransom demand of ₦150 million after the monarch was abducted from his farm on Saturday, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the region.
