A 25‑year‑old university student identified as Muima has shared the unusual story of his relationship with his 85‑year‑old girlfriend, Teresa, whom he says he plans to marry soon despite criticism from relatives and friends.
According to Muima, he met Teresa after moving to Congo for his university studies. While searching for a house to rent with a friend, they ended up becoming tenants in one of Teresa’s rental properties. Because her home was nearby, they interacted frequently.
He narrated that one day, Teresa brought him food after noticing he had nothing to eat. As she was leaving, she asked him for a kiss — and he agreed. From that moment, their friendship grew into affection, and eventually, they became lovers.
Teresa later informed her eight children that she had found a younger man she intended to marry. While some strongly disapproved, she insisted she would go ahead with the wedding, saying she looks forward to wearing a white gown again after losing her former husband many years ago.
Despite pressure from friends and family urging him to end the relationship, Muima said he is deeply in love with her. He added that he prays she outlives him, claiming he would not be able to cope emotionally if she died before him.
