A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has expressed regret over his condemnation of the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to Daily Post, Galadima acknowledged that he had previously opposed Jonathan’s leadership, but the worsening security situation in Nigeria has led him to reconsider his earlier position.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TVs Prime Time on Monday, the NNPP chieftain stated that he now views Jonathan’s approach to national security as more effective than that of subsequent administrations.
Reflecting on the events leading up to the 2015 general elections, Galadima noted that Jonathan delayed the polls for six weeks to tackle growing insecurity.
He claimed that the former president enlisted foreign mercenaries who helped restore stability and ensured that elections were conducted in all polling units across the country.
Galadima argued that the current leadership would not adopt such proactive measures, suggesting instead that it might exploit insecurity to influence the electoral process.
He said, “I once addressed journalists and made a statement. I, who sit before you now, was among the fiercest critics of Jonathan’s administration. Back then, I disapproved of how he handled things. But I never imagined that God would disgrace me by revealing that Jonathan was, in fact, a more virtuous and capable leader than those who came after him.”
