I have decided to answer the call of my people & offer myself for service, i’m fully prepared – Bello

According to Punch Newspaper, former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has officially entered the race for the Kogi Central senatorial seat after picking the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form ahead of the 2027 general elections. His move sets the stage for a high-profile contest against the incumbent senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, in what is expected to be one of the most closely watched races in the state.

Bello, who governed Kogi State from 2016 to 2024, is making a return to frontline politics with this senatorial bid. His decision to seek the APC ticket has generated significant reactions within political circles, especially among party loyalists and constituents in Kogi Central, many of whom see the contest as a defining moment for the district’s political future.

Confirming his participation, Bello said he is stepping forward to continue serving the people, stressing that his experience as a former governor has equipped him with the capacity to deliver effective representation at the national level. He expressed confidence in securing the party’s nomination and ultimately winning the general election.

“I have decided to answer the call of my people and offer myself for service once again. The Kogi Central senatorial district deserves strong, experienced representation, and I am fully prepared to provide that,” he said.

The former governor’s entry into the race sets up a direct challenge to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who currently represents the district and is expected to seek re-election. Political observers note that the contest could reshape the dynamics within the district, given both figures’ influence and support bases.

Bello’s supporters argue that his track record in office, particularly in infrastructure and youth engagement, will work in his favor. However, critics maintain that the race will be highly competitive, pointing to the incumbent’s growing popularity and legislative visibility.

As preparations for the APC primaries begin, attention is already turning to Kogi Central, where the emerging contest is likely to draw national interest. With both camps expected to mobilize heavily, the senatorial race is shaping up to be a pivotal political battle ahead of 2027.
