“If We Are Being Killed, It Is The Responsibility Of Government To do Something About It-Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has condemned excuses for the ongoing killings across Nigeria, insisting that no region, religion, or ethnic group should justify government inaction. Speaking in a video aired on Channels Television, Obasanjo emphasized that leaders must take full responsibility for protecting citizens.

“And for anybody to say because those who are being killed belong to this region, belong to this religion, belong to this tribe… it cannot be an acceptable excuse,” he said, criticizing statements that appear to downplay attacks based on identity.

Obasanjo stressed that the loss of Nigerian lives, regardless of background, constitutes a national emergency requiring decisive government action. “If we are being killed, it is the responsibility of government to do something about it,” he declared.

He called for immediate measures to halt ongoing violence, warning that continued attacks undermine national unity and public trust in leadership. “Government should stop the killing of Nigerians. No matter what religion they belong to, no matter what part of the world they belong to, no matter what tribe they belong to, we are being killed,” he said.

The former president underscored that human life must take precedence over politics, tribal differences, or regional biases. Every Nigerian has the right to safety, and citizens are entitled to demand security from their leaders. “The killing of Nigerians should be stopped. We have right,” he added.
