In the middle of my problem, President Tinubu sent Femi Gbajabiamila to come and see me– Olisa Metuh

Chief Olisa Metuh has recounted how President Bola Ahmed Tinubu intervened during one of the most challenging periods of his life, sending then-Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, to visit him. Speaking at a thanksgiving service in Abuja, Metuh said the gesture left a lasting impression and influenced his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Metuh explained that while he had expected support from his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), it was instead individuals from the APC—whom he had previously opposed politically—who extended help during his legal and personal struggles. He described the outreach as unexpected and meaningful, noting that it came at a time when public scrutiny and pressure were intense.

According to Metuh, Tinubu’s decision to delegate Gbajabiamila was not merely ceremonial but a sincere act of concern. “In the middle of my problem, he sent the Speaker of the House of Representatives then, Femi Gbajabiamila, to come and see me. He reached out to me; he comforted me and he did a lot of things for me then and this was someone who was my political enemy,” Metuh said.

The former PDP spokesman emphasized that the visit and support provided moral encouragement and personal reassurance, illustrating that political differences do not preclude empathy. He said the experience reshaped his understanding of loyalty and political alignment, contributing to his decision to engage more closely with the APC.

Metuh’s reflection underscores the idea that assistance and solidarity can come from unexpected sources.
