In the past, his wife assisted him to slaughter residents’ goats, now he has killed my sister- Tope

A grieving sister has appealed to the Oyo State government to ensure justice is served following the brutal killing of her sibling, Kemi, popularly known as Iya Dupe, in Ibadan’s Aba Afaa Community, Olomi-Academy area. She urged authorities to hold the suspect, identified as Mutiu, fully accountable for the crime.

According to The Nigerian Tribune, Iya Dupe, 53, who had been living with her nonagenarian stepfather, was last seen on the night of November 10. She was found the following morning in her room, killed and dismembered, with several body parts—including her head, hands, feet, breasts, and portions of her thighs—removed.

Background reports reveal that Iya Dupe and her younger sister were brought to their stepfather’s home at a young age after their mother remarried. Following the death of their mother, Iya Dupe continued living there due to a medical condition. She had previously suffered postpartum psychosis after a caesarean birth, which led to the loss of her newborn daughter. On the day of the incident, she reportedly went out to buy bread and returned home, going to bed as usual before the tragedy occurred.

Mutiu, the prime suspect, is a former inmate recently returned to the community. He has a history of theft, particularly targeting goats and rams from residents, and was previously banished along with his wife for similar offenses. The pair were also reportedly involved in the 2020 abduction of twins belonging to a prominent Islamic scholar in Ibadan.

Speaking to Sunday Tribune, Tope recounted: “I knew him at Aba Afaa Community where he lives in his late father’s house. In the past, he used to slaughter residents’ goats, rams and sheep in the dead of the night, assisted by his wife. He would skin and cut them into chunks for sale and consumption, now, he has killed my sister.” She expressed alarm that her sister was killed and dismembered shortly after Mutiu’s return to the community.
