Iranian academic Seyed Mohammed Marandi has issued a grave warning over the potential consequences of rising tensions in the Middle East, suggesting that the region could face catastrophic destruction if the current trajectory continues.
Marandi, a Professor of English Literature and Orientalism at the University of Tehran, made the remarks in a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, where he blamed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump for escalating tensions with Iran.
According to him, Iran is preparing for a worst-case scenario that could involve targeting critical infrastructure across the Persian Gulf. He listed key states such as United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait as potential areas that could be affected in the event of a full-scale escalation.
Marandi warned that such actions could lead to severe environmental consequences, including extreme heat conditions that might render parts of the Gulf region uninhabitable. He further cautioned that the destruction of vital oil and gas infrastructure could trigger a global economic collapse, given the region’s central role in international energy supply.
