Kanu: ”I Submit That The Reason Was Not Only Not Exhausted, But Was Probably Not Explored At All” – Obi

Nigeria’s opposition leader, Peter Obi, has reacted to the recent life imprisonment of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, describing the sentencing as a sign of poor leadership amid the country’s mounting challenges. The report was published by Tribune on Saturday, November 22, 2025.

Obi expressed concern that the timing of the verdict could heighten national tensions rather than calm them, given Nigeria’s current struggles with economic hardship, rising insecurity, and weak governance. He emphasized that the matters raised by Kanu were serious and warranted proper attention.

“In this case, I submit that the reason was not only not exhausted, but was probably not explored at all, or not fully explored. The concerns Kanu raised were not unheard of. The issues for which he demanded solutions were not insoluble,” Obi stated, underscoring the importance of dialogue and inclusive engagement in resolving political and social grievances.

The former presidential candidate suggested that a more thorough approach might have reduced public frustration and contributed to national stability. Obi’s remarks highlight the need for leaders to consider alternative solutions and address dissent constructively.
