Kebbi State Government: Rescued Maga Schoolgirls Show No Signs of Sexual Abuse

The Kebbi State Government has confirmed that medical examinations carried out on the 24 schoolgirls rescued from bandits show no evidence of sexual abuse. The announcement was made during an emotional handover ceremony on Wednesday at Government House, Birnin Kebbi.

The girls, all students of Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, were abducted during a dawn attack on November 17. Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Bande, said the state was deeply relieved by the medical findings and praised the efforts that led to their safe return. According to her, the girls are in stable condition and have reunited with their families.

Dr. Bande credited the successful rescue to the swift collaboration between Governor Nasir Idris and President Bola Tinubu, whose directive mobilised the National Security Adviser, the Minister of Defence, and various security agencies. Governor Idris described the moment as one of the proudest of his administration and thanked all security operatives involved.

The governor encouraged the students to remain committed to their education and urged residents to support peace and stability within the state. Security escorts were later provided to accompany the girls and their families back to their community in Maga.

Parents, represented by Malam Ibrahim Haruna-Maga, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the federal and state governments, security agencies, and everyone who contributed to the rescue operation. Sources revealed that the girls were freed from Bagega forest in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
