Deputy National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tim Osadolor, has called for a cultural shift in how Nigerian leaders use security escorts, suggesting that even top officials — including the president — should be able to move around without large police convoys. His comments, reported on November 28, 2025, have sparked fresh debate about security priorities and leadership accessibility.
Osadolor argued that Nigeria’s reliance on long motorcades and armed escorts is excessive compared to practices in many developed nations. He noted that in several European countries, senior government officials use minimal protection, move with basic security arrangements, and interact more freely with the public. According to him, this model strengthens trust and creates a healthier relationship between leaders and citizens.
He stressed that heavy convoys often disrupt traffic, intimidate road users, and place unnecessary pressure on security agencies. Reducing escort squads, he said, would allow more officers to focus on community policing and crime prevention rather than accompanying VIP movements.
Osadolor maintained that leadership should not be defined by intimidating displays of security but by accessibility and service. He suggested that President Bola Tinubu and other top officials could learn from countries like Denmark and the Netherlands, where leaders reportedly navigate public spaces without overwhelming police protection.
He concluded that redirecting security resources toward local communities would enhance national safety and help restore public confidence in law enforcement.
