Life has not been without pain, I’ve buried my beloved wife, and I lost 2 of my daughters–Fasoranti

According to a report by Daily Post on Monday, May 11, 2026, the National Leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Reuben Fasoranti, has called for every necessary effort to be made to preserve the unity of the group, insisting that Afenifere must remain indivisible despite internal disagreements.

Fasoranti made the appeal on Monday during activities marking his 100th birthday celebration, where he urged members of the organisation to set aside their differences and work together in the collective interest of the Yoruba socio-political movement.

The elder statesman stressed the need for harmony within the organisation, saying Afenifere should continue to operate with a common purpose and united voice.

He noted that the platform established for the advancement and protection of Yoruba interests must not be allowed to break apart.

He explained that the strength of the organisation lies in its unity and shared commitment, adding that members should place the future of the group above personal disagreements and divisions that could weaken its influence and legacy.

Reflecting on his journey through life, Fasoranti described reaching the age of 100 as a remarkable milestone shaped by many experiences across different periods of Nigeria’s history.

He said he had lived through colonial administration, the struggle for independence, periods of conflict, and times of peace.

The Afenifere leader also spoke about the personal losses he has endured over the years, revealing that life had presented painful moments despite the blessings of longevity and public service.

He recounted the deaths of his wife and two daughters, describing the emotional burden those experiences left behind.

He said, “Life has not been without pain. I have buried my beloved wife, Oladiwura, and I have lost two of my daughters. The weight of those losses is heavy, and there are days the sorrow feels fresh. But in all of it, I have held on to God. He has been my strength, my comfort, and my anchor.”
