MKO Abiola’s Son Reveals Two Things That Caught His Attention During Babangida’s Confession
Abdulmumuni Abiola, the son of the late MKO Abiola and Kudirat Abiola, has said that former Military President Ibrahim Babangida’s expression of regret over the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election is a healing moment for Nigerians.
According to Arise TV, it was reported that while speaking in an interview with ARISE NEWS on Friday, Abdulmumuni noted that Babangida’s admission of Abiola’s victory and his remorse for the annulment validate the long-standing truth about the election.
He emphasized that Babangida’s acknowledgment of his father’s victory was significant, even though he had always known the truth. He recalled that even at the young age of eight, when the election took place, he was aware that his father had won, even before the official results were announced.
He alleged that during the revelations he heard from General Ibrahim Babangida on Thursday, two parts caught his attention.
He said, “The first part was the acknowledgment that Abiola, my father, had won the 1993 elections. That, for me, I already knew that.”
Further speaking, he said, “I think the second part was more important for me—the acknowledgment that he felt remorse for the actions he had taken at the time, and also his expression that if he had the opportunity to do it again, he would have taken a different path.”
