Jane Muthoni, a resident of Eldoret, has shared the harrowing story of her eldest son, Jose, who allegedly confessed to killing his two younger brothers. She described the tragedy as a devastating loss that has left her grieving and struggling with depression, emphasizing that she will never forgive him for ending the lives of her children.
According to Jane, she married after completing high school and was blessed with three boys, but her marriage soon ended in separation. She left her first and second sons with their aunt in the village, while carrying her youngest child with her to Nairobi.
Tragedy struck when her second-born, Naftaly, was 16 and in Form One in 2018. Jane recalled receiving a call that he had committed suicide. Initially in disbelief, she learned that her elder son, Jose, found Naftaly deceased at home. After completing Form Four, Jose came to stay with Jane in Nairobi.
Jane noticed troubling behavior in her eldest son and warned him against keeping bad company. She recounted a night when Jose took her youngest son out, later returning without him. Alarmed, Jane reported the incident to the police. Following interrogation, Jose allegedly confessed to killing both of his brothers — one thrown into a pit latrine, the other hanged.
The trauma has left Jane unable to function normally, suffering from depression and constant grief. She emphasized that five years later, the case remains unresolved, and her only desire is justice for her two sons. Jane says she will never forgive her eldest son for “wiping away her generation.”
