Terasiah, a 64-year-old woman from Kiambu, has recounted the challenges she faced in her marriage, revealing how she endured her husband’s repeated infidelities. Her story highlights the importance of self-respect and resilience for women in difficult relationships.
Terasiah explained that she met her husband while still in high school and married him shortly after completing her education. She described herself as young and attractive at the time, drawing admiration from his friends. Soon after their wedding, her husband pressured her to get pregnant quickly, wanting to publicly confirm their union. Following the birth of their child, he instructed her to hire a house girl.
One night, Terasiah discovered her husband in a compromising situation with the house girl she had employed. Devastated, she returned to her parents’ home but eventually went back after he apologized. However, the behavior continued. In order to maintain her work and daily life, she began deliberately hiring attractive house girls, knowing her husband would take advantage of them while she was away.
Some house girls complied, while others confided in her about the advances. The situation escalated until her husband attempted to assault her in front of their children, prompting Terasiah to finally end the marriage.
Reflecting on her experiences, Terasiah says she has no regrets and urges young women in marriages to prioritize their safety and dignity. “Life must go on,” she emphasizes, encouraging women not to sacrifice themselves or their children in toxic relationships.
