A Nairobi woman identified as Hope has opened up about the unexpected challenges that unfolded on her wedding day and the events that later led her to walk away from her marriage. What began as a joyful occasion quickly became a day filled with confusion and disappointment.
Hope met her husband while in her third year at the university. After dating for some time, they agreed to get married. However, on the wedding day, things began to go wrong. She arrived at the church much later than expected, partly because her in-laws used the wrong route and got stuck in heavy traffic along Thika Road. Her photographer also failed to show up at her house to capture the preparations, adding to the frustration.
Despite the delays, the ceremony eventually took place in the afternoon, and the couple exchanged their vows. They later proceeded to the reception, where the cake-cutting went smoothly. But moments later, Hope realised her husband was missing. She waited for about 30 minutes before he reappeared.
When asked by his best man about their honeymoon accommodation, he admitted he had not made any plans. With no alternative, Hope followed him back to his parents’ home, where they stayed since he did not have a house of his own.
The challenges continued into the marriage. Hope said she caught her husband being unfaithful on several occasions but chose to forgive him. The situation reached a breaking point when she returned home after her exams and found unfamiliar clothes in the house. Confused, she called her in-laws, who stayed with her as they waited for answers.
A woman walked into the house shortly afterward, and minutes later her husband arrived. He failed to explain who the woman was. Feeling disrespected and emotionally exhausted, Hope packed her belongings and left the marriage for good.
