A woman identified as Sarah from Kirinyaga has shared a painful account of how her marriage broke down after her husband insisted that she live in the same home — and even share a sleeping space — with another woman he introduced into their family. The experience left her emotionally drained, eventually pushing her to seek help and start over.
Sarah explained that she dropped out of school in Form Two due to lack of fees. After working for some time, she met a man in Hydro, and the two began a relationship that quickly led to them living together and starting a family, even though they had not yet involved their parents. While expecting her second child, the couple went for an evening walk that would eventually change her life.
During the walk, her husband noticed a teenage girl sitting alone by the roadside and asked Sarah to check whether she was alright. The girl said she had been living on the streets. When they later found her mother, the woman said she could no longer manage the child’s behaviour. With approval from local authorities, Sarah and her husband agreed to take the girl in and support her education.
However, as the girl grew older, Sarah noticed troubling changes in her attitude and behaviour. One day, she returned home to find that chores had been left undone. When she questioned the girl, an argument began — and her husband unexpectedly claimed he now considered the girl his second wife. Sarah was stunned, especially when he insisted they would all continue living under the same roof.
The situation worsened when her concerns to in-laws did not bring any support. Although her own mother encouraged her to leave, Sarah had no income and felt trapped. After enduring the situation for two years, a compassionate church member offered to help her with rent for three months, giving her the courage to walk away and rebuild her life.
