Mrs. Martha Matthias, a primary school teacher at St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri, in Agwara Local Government Area, Niger State, has shared her harrowing experience during a recent bandit attack on the school. The assailants abducted approximately 265 people, including 25 staff members.

In a report by Vanguard News, Mrs. Matthias recounted how the attack unfolded around 1:00 a.m. She said she was awakened by the cries of children but was prevented by her husband from checking what was happening, a decision that likely saved her life.

“At about 1:00 a.m., we were all asleep at the hostel, and I heard the school children crying for help. I wanted to check what was going on, but my husband stopped me,” she said.

The abduction has left the community in shock and grieving for the victims. Families continue to call for urgent action to secure the safe release of those kidnapped.
