PUNCH Metro learned from a security source on Sunday that the couple, Iyanu and Funsho, had been married and had two children.

The source revealed that an argument broke out between the couple after Funsho reportedly accused Iyanu of engaging in extramarital affairs. The disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, during which Iyanu allegedly stabbed Funsho in the chest.

“In the heat of the fight, Mrs. Iyanu inflicted a fatal wound on her husband’s chest with a domestic knife. She then rushed him to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, where the doctor on duty confirmed him dead.”

Confirming the incident during a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Sunday, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omolola Odutola, stated that the suspect had been arrested.

According to Odutola, Iyanu turned herself in at the Divisional Police Station in the area after the incident.

The PPRO said:
“On December 30, 2024, at about 12:15 PM, one Iyanu Adedeji, a 22-year-old female residing at No. 3 Ifelodun Street, Unity Estate, Gbonogun, reported to the police station with a vehicle containing the body of her husband, Azeez Funsho Jimoh, a 28-year-old male who also lived at the same address.

“She narrated that the deceased, who had been her husband for eight years and the father of two children—one of whom is deceased—had accused her of having an extramarital affair. This accusation led to a heated argument that escalated into a physical fight. During the scuffle, she allegedly stabbed him in the chest with a domestic knife.”

Odutola further disclosed that Iyanu admitted to rushing her husband to the hospital after realizing he was bleeding profusely from the injury she inflicted.

“She stated that doctors at the Federal Medical Centre in Idi-Aba confirmed him dead,” Odutola said.

The PPRO added that police operatives visited the scene of the incident and recovered the knife used in the attack.

“A preliminary investigation is underway, and the case will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation,” Odutola added.

In response to the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, urged couples to avoid heated arguments and seek peaceful ways to resolve conflicts in their relationships.
