Ogun State Safety Corps Director Killed With Hammer, Machete in Church

 

Yomi Adetula, the Director of Anti-Arms Smuggling for the Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe) in Ogun State, was brutally murdered by suspected assassins on Sunday morning in Idi-Iroko, Ipokia Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the attack occurred in his church, located on Old Baggage Road, Idi-Iroko, shortly after 10 a.m. Armed men stormed the church, targeting Adetula.

“They shot at him, but the bullets didn’t penetrate. They then resorted to using other weapons, including hammers and machetes, to fatally wound him. It was evident from their actions that they were hired assassins,” a resident disclosed to the Foundation of Investigative Journalism.

Gruesome images of Adetula’s lifeless body, showing severe injuries and blood stains, have been circulating, shedding light on the brutality of the incident.

Police Confirm the Incident

Ogun State Police Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the tragic event in a statement issued on Sunday afternoon.

She said:
*”Police officers arrived at the scene and found Yomi Adetula, a 54-year-old male, lying lifeless in a pool of blood, his white Celestial garment stained and his body riddled with bullets.

To ensure he was truly dead, the assailants had used an axe to further mangle his head.”*

Odutola detailed that the attackers, three men armed with a double-barrel gun, entered the church, aimed at Adetula, and fired at him before resorting to other weapons.

She assured the public that efforts to apprehend the suspects, who fled toward the border area, were already underway.

“Normalcy has been restored in the area. Ongoing investigations will provide additional clues in the coming days,” Odutola added.

This tragic incident has left the community in shock, sparking calls for improved security in the area.
