The Ooni of Ife has called on Nigerians to remain united and avoid actions that could undermine the stability of the country due to political differences. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, the monarch stressed that no political ambition is worth threatening the peace or progress of the nation.
In his message, the Ooni emphasized that Nigeria belongs to all its citizens, regardless of political affiliation, and its success depends on collective responsibility. He warned that allowing partisanship to “sink” the nation is both dangerous and unacceptable, stressing that unity remains one of Nigeria’s greatest strengths.
Reaffirming his commitment to national cohesion, he noted, “Nigeria is bigger than all of us, and we are the people that are involved in the country Nigeria and we need to protect anything that has to do with the country.” He highlighted the importance of traditional institutions, explaining that royal leaders serve as a bridge between citizens and political authorities.
According to the Ooni, traditional rulers are closely connected to communities and understand their daily realities. “We the traditional rulers, the traditional institutions, we are the closest to our people, we know the good, the bad and the ugly,” he said.
He added that governance cannot be left to political leaders alone, stressing the need for collaboration. “It’s about time for all of us to realize that we can’t in any way sink our nation because of politics,” he concluded.
