Rema has added another major achievement to his growing international career after being confirmed as one of the headline performers for the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.

The Nigerian music star will perform alongside several globally recognised artistes, including Tyla, Future, Katy Perry, Anitta and LISA at the highly anticipated event in Los Angeles.

FIFA confirmed the development in a statement shared on its official social media pages on Saturday, revealing plans for a historic opening ceremony across the three host nations of the tournament.

According to FIFA, the 2026 World Cup will feature three separate opening ceremonies, making it the first time in the competition’s history that such a format will be used.

The ceremony in Mexico City is expected to hold on June 11, 2026, while celebrations in Los Angeles and Toronto will take place on June 12. FIFA explained that the events are designed to combine football, music and entertainment in what it described as a historic summer across North America.

Part of FIFA’s statement read: “For the first time in FIFA World Cup history, a new benchmark will be set as three spectacular opening ceremonies unfold across Mexico City, Toronto and Los Angeles, as Canada, Mexico and the United States come together to launch the greatest show on earth.”

The football body also confirmed that more international stars are expected to be announced in the coming months, raising anticipation ahead of the tournament.

The announcement marks another huge milestone for Rema, who has continued to expand his global influence through Afrobeats.

Over the past few years, the singer has enjoyed international success with several chart-topping songs and collaborations with foreign artistes.

His music has earned recognition across Europe, America and Asia, helping to push Nigerian music further into the global spotlight.

Fans have since taken to social media to celebrate the news, praising the singer for representing Nigeria on one of the biggest stages in world entertainment and sports. Many described the moment as another major win for Afrobeats and African music generally.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to be one of the biggest sporting events ever staged, with millions of fans across the world set to follow the tournament.

The addition of global music stars like Rema is expected to make the opening ceremony one of the most talked-about entertainment events of the year.
