Rhodes-Vivour Reacts To Footage Of Late Akeredolu Saying He Won’t Apologize For Banning Open Grazing

Former Lagos State governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has responded to resurfaced footage of the late former Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, defending his decision not to apologize for banning open grazing.

In the clip, Akeredolu explained that anti–open grazing laws in several southern states were motivated by pressing security concerns. He noted that allowing herders to move freely with cattle had become incompatible with modern realities, contributing to tensions and endangering communities.

Akeredolu rejected calls to revive grazing routes, questioning whether anyone would attempt to bring cattle into high-security areas such as the presidential villa. He emphasized that while herding has cultural value, no tradition should jeopardize public safety. He also referenced President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive that individuals carrying illegal firearms should be arrested, challenging authorities on enforcement.

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour paid tribute to Akeredolu, describing him as a courageous leader whose principled actions helped stabilize the South-West during critical moments. “I don’t think many of us in the South-West truly understand how much this man’s bravery shielded us from chaos,” Rhodes-Vivour said, highlighting the former governor’s commitment to security and the welfare of his people.

He urged future leaders to emulate Akeredolu’s dedication to justice, regional security, and the broader interests of the Yoruba people, emphasizing that the late governor’s legacy should be honored and remembered.
